Our Vision & Mission

Vision
Empowered Deaf Voices, United Across Sarawak

We envision a Sarawak where every Deaf person – no matter where they live – feels strongly connected, empowered and recognised through a vibrant, inclusive and proudly Deaf-led movement.

Mission
At Sarawak Deaf Community Services Association, we:
  • Prioritise Deaf leadership and self-representation
  • Raise awareness of Deaf rights and identity across Sarawak
  • Innovate accessible, interactive BIM learning experiences
  • Develop city hubs to anchor Deaf services in Kuching, Sibu and Miri
  • Establish strong partnerships with government and private sectors to ensure Deaf voices are heard.

Objectives of the Association

1

To raise public awareness of Deaf identity, culture, and community across Sarawak.

2

To expand the learning and use of Malaysian Sign Language (BIM) among the wider community for better communication and inclusion.

3

To strengthen Deaf leadership through mentoring, training, and professional development opportunities.

4

To promote visibility and recognition of Deaf voices, ensuring their perspectives and needs are heard and respected in society.

5

To build meaningful collaborations with organisations, educational institutions, and government agencies in support of Deaf advocacy and empowerment.

6

To support educational and social awareness initiatives that contribute toward the aspiration of reaching 1% of Sarawak’s total population in learning BIM.
